When I first saw the opportunity to have afternoon tea sitting in a Cinderella carriage pop up on my Facebook news feed I was all over it!
I love both afternoon tea and doing something different so was super excited and booked for the following weekend.
This particular carriage is resident in the Tea Terrace in House of Fraser, Oxford Circus and is available to book for slots of one hour fifteen minutes. The booking fee is £15 pp which is deductible from your bill (which will include the £9.95pp rental fee)
The carriage itself was cute, although it did wiggle a bit when you moved which was a touch disconcerting… Also as it is by the children’s wear section you did get the odd spectator.
The traditional afternoon tea was £37.95 for two including sandwiches, cakes, scones and tea. It was nice that you could choose your sandwich filling, type of scone and type of tea, although I went for a traditional fruit scone and English Breakfast tea.
The main challenge with the tea room was the service. The staff were nice and friendly but seemed to be rushed off their feet. Our food arrived with no cutlery and it took 10 minutes and Matt having to walk up to the counter to rectify this, which was frustrating as we had been allocated limited time on the table.
The food itself was well made, simple and tasty and was more than enough for both of us. The lemon drizzle cake was gorgeous!
Overall the experience was good, but I would recommend going at a quieter part of the week than a Saturday afternoon, so you can relax and enjoy being the prince or princess of afternoon tea!
