The Urban Dictionary describes a mother as “the woman who loves you unconditionally from birth, the one who puts her kids before herself and the one who you can always count on above everyone else”… wow that’s a huge responsibility!
Around this festive, fluffy time of year, I thought I’d take the time to write and ode to my mum (and my maker). A small disclaimer first though, this is my first ode (Horatian style)so it may not be perfect, but then most beautiful things never are..
An ode to the mother
When writing an ode your subject matter must be clear,
My mother, my mum, my friend, my dear.
In the past the relationship has been tough,
But in the present it’s more smooth that it’s rough.
Sharing hobbies and pastimes through week and weekend,
The laughter, the learning, may it never end.
As time progresses and life marches on,
We move closer together, becoming more strong.
Kind and caring, putting others before she,
Reminding and fretting, of course making tea!
She wants to be zany, a touch avant garde,
My mum needn’t try, she’s a natural wild card.
Big eyes of blue, sparkle forth from her face,
Her quirky movements have their own form of grace.
Checking her actions with every move,
Have confidence mum, you’ve found your groove.
As time passes on, you only get more brave,
Your energy, your passion, a legacy will pave.
Whilst short and sweet this here is my ode,
To mother to mum, you will never get old.
